The Compass and Sextant

A young guild that was formed in Brightshore Doulus 25 BY by Pietro Viscont. The members of the Compass and Sextant work to map out the continent, both expanding the known boarders as well as detailing where things are on the continent. The guild also maintains a map of the known continent and actively updates it as new information is learned. Using this master map, members also produce maps to be loaned out to adventures. For members, use of these maps is free. For others, a nominal fee may be assessed to cover the cost of the materials to produce the map.

The guild is currently working to build and maintain a guild hall, currently members work wherever they find a space.

This guild is open to all PCs who have an interest in these types of activities.

Out of Character Information

Contact Ben (Pietro) on slack for more information.

This hasn’t been approved by the Weavers yet and is still a work in progress.

What do guild members do?

  • Participating in recon missions. You're not allowed to explore new areas of the map in downtime, but you can revisit revealed hexes and collect further information about them. These missions could determine whether areas that have been cleared out and looted are still clear. (If they're not clear, you can't go in and clear them out in downtime, but at least you can report back that the place needs to be revisited in an adventure.) These missions could also add some detail to the revealed “lore.” Maybe there was something the previous explorers missed that the recon team might notice. These might also be used in the future by the guild to fund expeditions.
  • Maintaining a master map of the continent. This would be used as a resource for all of Brightshore.
  • Producing maps that you can use in future adventures or the guild can loan to adventures. Guild members would have access to these maps. Cost for other PCs is still up for debate and further discussions with weavers.
  • Information gathering. This guild might also ask non-guild-member adventurers to share the maps they've made and news of what they've found. That could require guild members to spend downtime talking to PCs and NPCs and bringing the info back to the guild.
  • Surveying ruins for reclamation. This is an activity that might be done in conjunction with the hall of hunters if they are interested. The idea behind this would be that this is a surveyor activity. Reclaiming ruins requires building structures, which surveyors would be assisting in.

Future goals for the guild

  • Funding expeditions. The guild would identify areas that it wanted explored or mapped and would pay adventures to perform an expedition to that area.
  • Building and maintaining roads. Once the guild has sufficient funding, building roads to places of interest would be an activity that the guild might undertake.
