So named for their ability to strip the barnacles off the hull of a boat, the barnacle shoals are a stretch of reefs and shoals lining the southern edge of the approach to the Inland Sea from Goodleaf Jungle to about 24-30 miles out to sea. Most ships just sail around them, but there is a small gap that can potentially be navigated between two small islands, the Dragon's Maw, a 1/4 wide channel. It is rumored to be haunted, but it can be navigated by a skilled captain and crew (or with luck), and if so it cuts the travel time between Avismere and Prevelan by a fair amount. It's often used by desperate ships on the run.
